Caring for your Cut Orchids

Cut flowers enhance your home. They are more than a decoration, they enhance the environment and are as much a part of the overall design of your home as the furnishings and furniture.

The orchid, thought to have originated 120 million years ago, now colonize every part of the world (except the arctic region).

The exotic orchids, once madly expensive and exotic, are now available to you.

With proper care these flowers repay us with their beauty, so little is needed to keep them looking wonderful. The Cymbidium orchid will stay fresh for weeks. It will outlive and outshine all other flowers so are best arranged alone. They need very little embellishment and look wonderful with a little foliage.

Re-cut the flowers when you receive them making a diagonal cut with sharp secateurs or snips. It is not neccessary to add any nutrients to the water. You can recut the stem each week and change the water but I have arranged them in a wet oasis and they have lasted well for 3-4 weeks. Orchids don't like excess heat and don't spray with water or they may discolour.

New Zealand orchids, delivered direct anywhere in NZ. Standard cymbidium orchids, grown fresh in NZ hothouses.
